I have heard that speakeasy suspended operation of pre-wimax gear on the
5GHz band (mainly due to lack of standards, it sucking, etc), but yes,
it's a big jungle. We both this of course, operating in seattle over
years...
Even in the worst of worst conditions, with no open channels, wifi still
will work "pretty well" to marginal. A lot of times, this is really all
that's needed. If there is a demand and growth requiring higher
bandwidths and less interference, there is a million other options
available (licensed for example, expensive gear), and we'll at least
have the "business requirements" for building such.
