SD card lock tab fell out!

I have a 4gb SD card, and I had some trouble with the card locking
itself randomly while copying pictures off my digital camera. Well, it
looks like it was on its way of falling out of the SD card. Now, with no
switch, my card is in a permalock state.

Any idea how the switch works inside an SD card? Is it covering up some
contacts? Is it flipping an even smaller switch? I noticed that you
can easily take off the plastic case of the SD card, but I am looking
for someone with some pointers.

Who knows where the little tab may have fallen, so we can consider
re-inserting the tab not a viable option. The card is also past store
warranty and the receipt cannot be found. The card is a Patriot from
Frys.
