WDS does not support WPA only WEP, some APs can be a WPA AP to clients 
and also a WDS repeater. But they cannot do WPA between WDS nodes. In 
regards to the discussion about WDS sucking or being unreliable, it 
works but has great impact on performance. You are creating a big 
wireless broadcast domain and all radios involved (AP, WDS and client) 
are operating on the same channel. There is a good summary of WDS here:
