Yes, as a longtime 802.11 user and seattlewireless subscriber, I'm well
aware of this fact. But I'm not the one providing the service.
I was originally planning to do some playing around with the Clearwire modem
(in the attic, etc.) or even mount it on the roof. But when I found out
that they lied to me and they are actively blocking my ports, I suddenly
have zero motivation to do anything at all to help them provide a signal to
me. Especially putting holes in my house.

Again, yes, I'm aware of this. I didn't expect a great VoIP connection but
I did expect something to at least work one time as a proof of concept. I'm
not sure whether the packet loss or the firewalling is the issue for VoIP
but it doesn't matter. Their technicians lie and their service is marginal.
It's a raw deal and folks should know the truth.
