Clearwire: Just Say No

This is very much not normal practice...   Nor is it the law.   The
justice department can request all they want; it is not legally binding,
which is why they were negotiating with ISPs.

I can't see any reason that ISPs should be actively helping the
government do unsupervised surveillance on citizens.   In fact, I would
argue that this is exactly the opposite of what should be done:  In a
free society, people deserve to not be monitored unless the court
decides (based on evidence) otherwise.

It is also probably worth noting that they were never discussing logging
of URLs visited, what I have heard is that a mapping of DHCP or PPP logs
to users is all that is really important, so that an IP address can be
mapped to users based on logs of attacked sites (or the search engines).
The ISP I work for has always done this, but we most defiantly don't log
URL data.

Sounds like Clearwire is simply doing what the United States Government 
wants ISPs to do. Cheney Administration Justice Department Attorney 
General Alberto Gonzalez has regularly been requesting that ISPs retain 
customer data on Internet activities.

1. Websites Visited.

2. Internet Searches.

3. Who emailed Who.

Is there one good reason why Clearwire wouldn't or shouldn't do what the

Government asks it to do in order to "fight childhood pornography" and 
"fight terrorism"?

When someone opposes this Department of Justice request, what does that 
make them; a Child Pornographer or a Terrorist?
