| When the weather gets nice, people start putting their furniture out on the street. It usually stays there for a day or two. I’m not really sure what happens to it after that. |

| I live in a cool looking city. Here are some pictures that I’ve taken over the past month or so. |

The guys over at PersonalTelco are putting together an advogato based node building portal. The site, adhoc.personaltelco.net creates an adhoc project forming framework that allows people to get skilled help in building their nodes. Unlike wikis or mailing lists, this is an attempt to create trust metrics rather than just providing forums.
Reputation systems are very interesting, especially when building networks that require a certain amount of trust and collaboration. I was lucky enough to sit around and chat with Adam Shand about it while we waited for our return flights from etech. The system is still in development, but it’s really worth taking a look to see what they’re up to.
Matt Peterson, founder of BAWUG and fellow FreeNetworker gets profiled in the Contra Costa Times. In addition to the bits of background info, the article actually conveys the FreeNetworks philosophies to the general non-techie public. Cool beans.

The first weird thing I saw on our vacation was this Oxy-Gene sex toy looking thing. It’s a portable breathing dispenser with 12 minutes of 50% oxygen enriched air. It was in the bathroom, and came with these instructions. Like the toilet, it’s sanitized for your protection, but unlike the toilet, I didn’t feel the need to pull the little strip off of it.
Another bit that I caught was a brick and mortar eBay listing company. According to this sign, you bring them the item, they sell it for you on ebay, and you pick up the $$$. Of course, there’s a 40% charge plus ebay listing fees, but I’m sure they’re not a failing .bomb or anything. I saw some other weird things, but so far these are the only photos I’ve captured that really showcase the weirdness. |

Casey is running around like a madman with his new sanyo scp8100 camera ($99 camera special through sprint, $45 a month for unlimited data) taking pictures and having them automagically show up on his server (no spiffy domain name yet). It’s not a freenetwork, but it’s cool to watch his daily picture snapping show up on the Interweb real-time. He’s also got 144k data services which he’s pegging all the time with his laptop. Sucks that with both of my celphones (t-mobile/att) I dont have this type of service and I’m paying 3x the price.
The conference is being postponed due to lack of registrations. We didn’t have enough attendees for the two tracks that we had planned, and our backer’s costs were not being covered. The conclusion that we came to was that it would be a mistake to continue with the June date as the value of the conference was not being met.
We will have a conference, but while we figure out the details of the new date and time, we will be refunding all registration fees.
The conference will NOT be held in Las Vegas
- A survey will be sent out for date and location. My vote is for Seattle.
- Likely dates are November, December, or January as we need some time to regroup and promote.
Price will be dropped to $99.00

Yes, the conference is postponed, and no, I dont know all the details. I’m waiting for the conference call to find out. Dont worry, I’ll tell you all the details.
On the bright side, I’ve just gotten back from a really fun canadian vacation with my wife, and I took some cool pictures at some of the clubs we hit. Fun Fact: The Opus Hotel bar bathrooms have LCD screens above the urinals so you can watch the lizards upstairs hit on your signifigant other. |

Graham Freeman has a pretty cool hack. It’s a volkswagon camper with a solar powered access point. For those of you who have been thinking about solar, he’s got the details here.
