The Redline Cafe now has table service. There were a dozen of us last night. Thoughts?

Pizza was ok, if a bit greesy and thin. I had to douse my pizza with a cheese shaker in order to avoid hot oil burns. I would rather have the standard menu available in the evening. It is nice to be able to order things and pay at the end. In the past, I found it a pain in the ass to pull out my debit card every time I wanted a drink. One thing that I have noticed is that the tables are getting to be a bit small for hosting our size of group. We have had to split into two, non adjoining mobs, which limits conversation. We might want to suggest that they get some tables that are easier to push together, particularly for the lower area.
If Redline wants to take a stab at being a restaurant, I think we may want to let them do that. Table service pretty much means place order, eat, then leave. Pulling tables together and gabbing for hours is not restaurant behavior, it’s cafe behavior. I think we should just move our mob elsewhere.
I’ve been scouting out other cafes on the hill and although early in the search, I think Cafe Vita is a nice hang. The upstairs seats about 40, and it’s a much more social environment. There is free WiFi (of course) and there’s even a Piano and a small stage. I know other groups have meetings, so it might be good to check out if there’s a schedule.
I do agree with Matt, that we should let the RedLine try to transition. I know they are “trying” this out, and aren’t quite sure if they want to keep it this way. Obviously people coming into Redline, buynig an Ice Tea and playing chess or surfing the internet for 5 hours doesn’t really make the recipe for a successful cafe/restaurant. I like the food and service but miss the old menu
The snacks were great, and the short time I have been coming to HACK night, I have seen that SeattleWireless rings up the biggest tabs out of any of the groups. GOOD FOR Seattle wireless
the non-moocher group. I am not sure of places here in Seattle, as I am not too aquainted with the downtown/caphill/or queen anne scene.
The other things maybe to consider, which would result in more work, would be to have a club house
and bring pizza and bee…soda. Would be a lot cheaper for the overall group. Just a thought. I do like cafe’s though. Also with summer here, whats to oppose an outdoor hacknight
BBQ grill/beer. If we do it around lake union, ill support some internet, but it will have to have a splash screen of snazzy pictures of me on hills with my laptop.
ok enough gabbering. Lets make a topic of conversation of this tommorow. I wonder how many people will actually read this before then?

The pizza is pretty decent, but way over priced. I wouldn’t be against the table service if they actually came by except to ask me if I’m ready for my bill. I love the atmosphere, I love the staff, I *really* love the location… but my pocketbook is in pain over the pizza prices and my stomach isn’t real thrilled about the lack of alternatives.
