Now that I’ve got an eeepc, I’ve been able to cut down the weight I carry every day without losing much functionality. One thing that I have been missing however, is the ability to configure my Eye-Fi card for random networks that I come across. I’m running the stock Linux, Xandros, and Eye-Fi doesn’t officially support anything other than Windows and OSX. Fortunately, Dave Hansen has released Eye-Fi Config on his EyeFi Linux Hacking blog. It’s a simple command line tool that doesn’t help you with online service configs or local copy, but allows you to search for, add and delete WiFi networks from your linux machine. It’s exactly what I needed. Thanks Dave!

Seattle has been selling off it’s old signs, and it made the rounds on Slog and the Seattle Times, but if you want this one on Boylston, it looks like you just have to give it a hard tug. Every time I look out the window at Metrix, I think it’s going to be gone, but so far, it’s still there.
Not sure where you are? Check out Loki from Skyhook Wireless. It’s a firefox extension that gives you GPS-like capabilities with just a wifi card. For those of you that think this sounds familiar, it’s because it’s Place Lab + money – privacy. That aside, I can see it being relatively useful. You can put yourself on a map with the FindMe button, fine tune your location (make that database better monkeys!), send your location via SMS or Email, and add GeoTags to flickr. It’s definitely worth the 2MB download.
It’s Sunday on Broadway, and you’ve still got some time to make it to the Farmer’s Market. If you want to get some Walla Walla onions that were still in Walla Walla when you were out drinking last night, you’ve got until three o’clock to get down to the Bank of America parking lot. There’s live (country) music and free cheese if onions aren’t your thing, but if nothing else there excites you, spice up some Noah’s bagels with the Rasberry Pepper Jelly from Woodring’s farm. You will not regret it.

If household items, fancy new (to you) sportcoats or just a later cutoff time are more your thing, check out the Seattle Men’s (and Women’s) Chorus’ 2006 rummage sale at the old gutted Safeway. It’s easy to find, located across the street from the gutted Bartells, gutted QFC, and the gut bomb Taco Bell. While we were there, everything in the place was made half price. My guess is by 4pm, you’ll be able to get Sylvester, Tweety and the porcelin duck here for pennies on the dollar.

Thousands of immigrants and supporters marched in Seattle today, partially to stop H.R. 4437, a bill that would (in addition to other insane things) make it a felony to provide any aid (shelter, food, clothing) to illegal immigrants. I marched from Westlake to the Fed, and got some pictures along the way.

Parental duties stopped me from actually participating in any conferences this weekend, but I crashed stopped by Mind Camp 2.0 to say hello to some people I haven’t seen in a while and take some pictures. It looks like it’s going to be another good time. I would have stopped by Linux Fest, but it’s a bit further out. I’m sure I’ll get the rundown at next week’s HackNight at Caffe Vita

So this is my first post from my new sidekick2 and I have to say, I’m surprised by how nice the user experience is. After my 2 hours of activation nightmare (I don’t blame danger for that), it all just works. A prerequisite for any new phone, I have already fired off a couple of photos to 16photos and for the most part, I am used to the keyboard (a day of IM will do that fast). It is so great to get away from t9.
Missing Sync (29.95) and Danger’s SSH (9.99) were totally neccessary purchases, but are probably the only pieces of software that I will buy unless I am just unaware of the killer hiptop app, which I’m sure someone out there will fill me in on.
Well, they’re not for sale yet, but Here are some zipit add-on boards by TomW that have rs232, SD, and EL backlight drivers.
It still requires a bit of solder and a steady hand, but having all the parts on a pre populated board should make the hacking go a whole lot easier.
